The Role of Educational Interpreters

This training will examine the role that interpreters inhabit in K-12 settings. Content includes an overview of current literature on the concept of role-space and identity. Workshop activities and discussion will look at various scenarios and ethical principles and guidelines that inform interpreter decisions.

Course Information

Workshop Objectives

  • List 2-3 traditional views (models) of interpreting and Identify the unintended negative consequences of each.

  • Compare the principles of RID CPC (tenets) and guidelines for K-12 interpreting (classroominterpreting.org) and identify 2 areas where the interpreter’s “role” in educational settings is different than and similar to the interpreter’s role in community settings.

Certificate of Completion

This course offers a Certificate of Completion for 1.25 hours after successfully passing the quiz with a score of 100%.
