A Series of Guides for Parents, Professionals, and Students

A series of publications were developed for school administrators, educators, educational interpreters, students, and parents to support language access for children who are deaf and hard of hearing in general education settings. The publications were developed through the collaborative efforts of Dr. Brenda Schick, Gallaudet University, and Boys Town National Research Hospital and are based on the content of Dr. Schick’s Classroom Interpreting website. Pre-Hire Screening

The Pre-Hire Screening is a rapid means for school administrators to obtain information on the overall interpreting abilities of a potential new hire. The screening provides general feedback about the interpreter’s skills within 72 hours and is not intended to replace a full EIPA Performance Assessment. Pre-hire screenings are provided for schools that need an immediate answer if an applicant is qualified to interpret in a classroom. Individual interpreters may not register for the pre-hire screening. School districts can order the pre-hire screening kit by sending your request to EIPA@boystown.org or by calling Deborah Tamer at  (531) 355-5039.
